Behind the artist

My name is Lena Persson, and I am a Swedish parttime artist who loves spending time painting in the studio. I live in Saltjö-Boo, Nacka, which is a part of an island, a southern suburb of Stockholm.

I would describe my style as abstract/impressionism. All of my paintings are loosely tied to the magnificent colours and textures found in nature - at our beaches, across our forest, the flowers and fields. I find beauty and inspiration everywhere. I am also a very proud mum of three grown up children and they are my greatest achivement!

My process

The majority of my sparetime you can find me at my easel or my desk in the studio which I am charing with my twinsister and my mom. I use primary acrylic paint with accents of gold leaf and soil or using sand and other material that brings a great texture to my paintings. I mainly use my palette knife while painting but utilize large and small brushes/kitchen sponges to blend and soften areas in the painting. I also love to use my fingers to smooth the paint in for example when I make the water or the sky.

I start with a memory, remembering what that made me feel, that picture, that mountain, that sky. Then I paint.

Lately, painting has become even more significant due to health challenges that have interrupted my full-time work. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I am currently fighting it. When I am painting, time flies, and I am filled with a sense of strength, health, and vitality, which brings me so much joy, I am here and now and everything is all fine!
